Agenda

  • 8:30 a.m. Navigating the Intersection of the FMLA, ADA, Worker’s Compensation + Other Leave Laws  | Danielle Crane
An employee’s absence from work and the ever-changing leave laws are a common source of confusion and liability for employers. Danielle will walk you through your obligations under the various laws and outline the intersections between them. She will also provide best practices and strategies for handling difficult cases.
  • 9:15 a.m. Break
  • 9:30 a.m. Proving You’re Right: Documentation + Employment Litigation | Nicholas S. Bobb
As long as you have employees, litigation is almost a foregone conclusion. The employer’s best defense is always documentation. Nick will discuss the ways employers should document any problematic employees or workplace incidents so that their records can be helpful, rather than harmful, in future litigation. He will give examples of both good and bad documentation practices and illustrate how each can affect an employer’s position against a former employee in a lawsuit.
  • 10:15 a.m. What Do I Do About These Garnishments? | Maria Mariano Guthrie
Employers become involuntary debt collectors when wages of an employee are garnished by the employee’s creditor. This presentation provides an overview of Ohio's garnishment laws and the duties of employers in receipt of garnishment or wage-withholding orders.
  • 10:45 a.m. Break
  • 11:00 a.m. Quiz Bowl — Employment Lawyer Edition | Brendan Feheley
In this interactive segment, Brendan will challenge guests to test their employment knowledge. He will focus on a variety of important topics that human resources professionals should be familiar with.
