Paralegal – Real Estate

Columbus

The Real Estate + Finance Paralegal is a self-starter, transactional paralegal whose primary responsibility is to support attorneys on real estate transactions and related work.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with attorneys and firm clients regarding real estate needs, such as, transferring real estate titles, lot splits, land combinations, and acquisition/sale of properties
  • Research county online real estate records to obtain and verify legal descriptions for the filing of Affidavits for Mechanic’s Liens for the Construction Area attorneys
  • Coordinate lien and court searches for firm attorneys in M+A, Business, and Real Estate Areas. UCC searches are included in this process.
  • Review and analysis of title commitments and surveys in connection with the purchase and sale of real estate and financing transactions; and preparation of title and survey objection letters regarding same
  • Review trusts and research county online real estate records to obtain property data and title documents for the preparation and recordation of title transfers for Estate Planning/Probate Area attorneys
  • Procurement of PZR (Zoning) Reports and zoning Letters from city and other governmental authorities
  • Research county online records, preparation of documents and county required forms
  • Recordation of documents via mail and electronic in all jurisdictions in and outside of Ohio for various firm attorneys
  • Coordinate local counsel outside of Ohio for real estate/estate planning/probate work
  • Preparation of UCC documentation
  • Work with lender and titles companies with respect to various real estate transactions
  • Research county online records for current site data, source deeds of title, lien searches and run chains of title for various real property matters
  • Record all documentation on cell tower sites situated in and outside of Ohio via mail or electronically
  • Calculation of CAUV Agricultural Tax Recoupments for clients when selling real estate
  • Work with surveyors to be sure survey requirements are met in connection with acquisition and loan transaction


Qualifications

  • Knowledge of real estate law and concepts
  • Familiarity with title commitments, survey, loan transactions, property acquisitions
  • Familiarity with on-line real estate resources and experience with real estate related research
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills

Education

  • Undergraduate degree preferred
  • Paralegal certificate a plus

Paralegal – Probate + Trust Administration

Columbus

Immediate opening for an experienced Probate + Trust Administration Paralegal with strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. This position involves interesting and oftentimes complex estate and trust matters, extensive client contact, and will provide a unique career opportunity.

Responsibilities

  • Meeting with clients in order to prepare all necessary documents for commencing estate, trust, and guardianship matters.
  • Management of estate/trust administration “docket” including preparation of inventories, accountings, trust reports, notices, etc…
  • Preparation of State and Federal estate and fiduciary income tax returns (Forms 706, 8971, and 1041).
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on time sensitive projects.


Qualifications

  • Experience in assisting attorneys in handling estates, trusts, and guardianships from start to finish. Minimum of 5 years’ experience, preferred 10+ years’.
  • Experience in preparation of estate and income tax returns required.
  • Intermediate to advanced understanding of estate planning, probate administration, and post mortem tax return preparation required.
  • Knowledge of MS Office, including Word and Excel required.
  • Experience with NumberCruncher, Estate Value Pricing, Lackner 6-in-1, and Perfect Form software preferred.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Paralegal certificate from an ABA approved paralegal program or equivalent
