Ted manages the firm’s Marion, Ohio, office and primarily serves clients in Union, Delaware, Hardin, Crawford, Morrow, Wyandot, and Richland counties. He has been consistently recognized as the “Best Attorney in Marion” by The Marion Star in recognition of his nearly 50 years in practice, connecting the local community to the substantial legal resources offered by Kegler Brown.

From helping families pursue personal injury and wrongful death claims, to navigating complex estate planning and real estate issues for high-net-worth individuals and family farm businesses, Ted leverages the skills and experience of the Kegler Brown team with his own to serve both the everyday and complex needs of his clients.

Broad Legal Experience

A general practitioner of many types of law, Ted enjoys helping businesses and families make decisions based on solid advice. He is just as comfortable handling a complex business matter as he is writing a simple will or trust. Ted has a broad range of experience in many areas of the law, including real estate transactions, zoning, annexation, employment law, contracts, personal injury claims, creditor’s rights, estate planning, litigation, probate, business planning, insurance law, condominium law, construction law, and many others.

Major Projects

Ted’s legal services have resulted in three major industrial parks serving the Marion area, a first-ever private intermodal rail/truck facility serving the Midwest, the chartering of a community bank, the creation of an economic development organization serving city and county governments, and the expansion of one of the largest warehousing facilities between Columbus and Cleveland.

Public Service

In addition to his busy legal practice, Ted has found the time to serve the community in a variety of public service areas. He served on the Marion City Board of Education for more than 35 years, serving as its president during a $100 million building project. Appointed by the mayor, Ted also sits on the Marion City Civic Service Commission.

Below are selected testimonials from Ted’s clients:

“Mr. McKinniss has taken care of the bulk of our manufacturing company’s legal needs for over twenty years. His general knowledge of contract and employment law, litigation, regulations and other day-to-day business issues enables him to help keep us on track. He knows our business and our long-term goals and is one of our corporate “family” members. Ted is a true business lawyer who can advise us on the law and then advise us on the right business decision, as well. He always keeps an eye on the budget. Because of his excellent work with the company, I also trust my personal needs to him. He is a well-known and much-appreciated leader in the Marion community, having served the City School Board for numerous terms. His civic devotion does not stop there as he has served many institutions in the community that make it better. I think he is the best lawyer in the county and so do many others.”

Nick R. Chilton, Chief Executive Officer | Wyandot, Inc.

“Ted has been our company attorney for more than 36 years. During that time, Ted has helped us grow from one small warehouse facility to three industrial parks that serve as home for many different companies, including a Fortune 500 company and one of the largest trucking firms in the U.S. Whether it is the creation of a foreign trade zone or the negotiation of a ten-year contract with the railroad, Ted has the skill and experience to get the job done. He has not only met our diverse legal needs, but has been a trusted advisor giving solid business advice when needed. He is truly one of those attorneys that adds value to a business day in and day out.”
