Research Results for Eminent Domain Verdicts and Other Misc. Appropriation Matters
Tom was happy to present his comprehensive research project findings for the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), focusing on legal precedents in eminent domain during the International Right of Way Association (IRWA) Appraisal Day Seminar. This project was a collaborative effort with the ODOT research team and Dr. Kevin White at EL Robinson.
Before joining Kegler Brown, Tom retired from ODOT as a professional engineer, bringing a wealth of experience to his legal practice. It was prudent and timely for ODOT to institute this research project, to not only understand what, if any, changes to Ohio eminent domain law and the results of eminent domain jury trials have happened in the last few years, but to get a good baseline in the event legal precedent in this area does evolve, and to further anticipate where the change winds may be heading from the legal bar and industry surrounding right of way acquisition in this state.
