Matt is an experienced trial attorney that assists clients navigating disputes related to a wide variety of issues, with a strong focus in the area of creditors’ rights and bankruptcy. He brings a diverse range of perspectives to his client engagements through prior experience as in-house counsel for a publicly traded manufacturing company and as a law clerk to a federal bankruptcy court judge. 

Matt has earned acclaim for his trial practice from national attorney-rating services, including recognition as an “Ohio Rising Star” by Super Lawyers and as “One to Watch” by The Best Lawyers in America.

Matt’s litigation experience spans state and federal courts nationwide and includes bench trials, dispositive briefing, all phases of discovery, temporary restraining order hearings, arbitration, mediation, and appellate practice before the Ohio Courts of Appeals and the Ohio Supreme Court.

Creditors’ Rights, Bankruptcy, and Insolvency Work

Matt represents individuals and business clients in creditors’ rights, bankruptcy, and similar insolvency matters. He brings to bear his federal bankruptcy court clerkship experience and knowledge in handling bankruptcy litigation, foreclosures, collections, garnishments, executions, receiverships, UCC Article 9 sales, assignments for the benefit of creditors, and more. Representative clientele includes secured and unsecured creditors, Chapter 7 trustees, business owners, and individuals in all chapters of bankruptcy.

Complex Civil Litigation Experience

Capable of handling any number of general business matters, Matt focuses his litigation practice on complex commercial disputes involving multiple parties and multiple claims, including but not limited to breach of contract, tortious interference, fraud, misrepresentation, and breach of fiduciary duty claims. With experience at both the trial and appellate levels, he prioritizes efficiency and cost-effectiveness in his work and aims to resolve litigation with the clients’ comprehensive business objectives in mind.

Real Estate Disputes

Matt assists clients in both commercial and residential real estate disputes, including those relating to purchase-sale transactions, mortgages, liens, foreclosures, easements, property disputes, and quiet title actions. His client base spans purchasers and sellers, commercial and residential landlords, and secured and unsecured lenders. Matt has successfully resolved disputes running the gamut from defending against alleged personal injury accidents on client property, to prosecuting seller misrepresentation and fraud, to proving clients’ legal property rights at trial.

Beyond his legal practice, Matt has been involved in the local Columbus Bar Association Bankruptcy Committee for years and currently serves as Vice Chair. Matt also presents on creditors’ rights, bankruptcy, receivership, and insolvency issues to bar associations and law students, and at continuing legal education seminars.
