Engineering Failures + Their Consequences
During ACEC Ohio’s Fall ethics training, Tom Pannett led a compelling exploration of engineering ethics through the lens of historical failures. Drawing on his multidisciplinary background in engineering, law, and procurement, Tom examined case studies including the Boston Molasses Disaster, the Surfside condominium collapse, and the Fukushima nuclear incident. His session highlighted how ethical lapses, whether in design, oversight, or communication, can lead to catastrophic outcomes, offering valuable lessons for today’s professionals.
