Global Business Attorney Earns Data Privacy Certification

David Wilson, part of Kegler Brown’s Global Business practice, has earned the title of Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM), an ANSI-accredited designation through the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).

The CIPM is the first and only certification in privacy program management, developed in response to overwhelming demand to collect and collate common practices for managing privacy operations. David is not only a member of IAPP, but now is one of more than 8,000 professionals worldwide who currently hold an IAPP certification.

The IAPP is the first organization to publicly establish standards in professional education and testing for privacy and data protection. This certification demonstrates an understanding of privacy program governance and the skills necessary to establish, maintain and manage a privacy program across all stages of its operational life cycle.

Data is a precious resource for businesses, and with the threat of breaches rapidly evolving, privacy professionals are increasingly important to the life of a company. As a CIPM, David will help organizations manage rapidly evolving privacy threats and mitigate the potential loss and misuse of information assets.

“Privacy and data protection is a developing area for many businesses, but it’s becoming essential,” David says. “Data privacy laws and regulations change regularly, and are put together by not only the government, but also industry groups, and large organizations like Facebook, Twitter and Google.”

“This means that a company’s activities with data – collecting it, storing it, transmitting it – as well as the activities of that company’s partners, vendors and customers, can have legal ramifications that vary between jurisdictions,” David says. “Continuing education programs like the CIPM certification are central to managing in data-driven global economy.”
