Reducing U.S. Occupational Licensure Barriers to Work

SGAC Leaders’ Policy Conference

Presented Pecha Kuncha style during a Breakout Session at the State Government Affairs Council’s 2018 Leaders’ Policy Conference on November 17-20 in Scottsdale, AZ, Tony used Ohio’s Cosmetology Law as a case study to illustrate the importance of reducing occupational licensure barriers throughout the U.S. Also incorporating findings from national studies and making comparisons to other industries’ licensure requirements, Tony showed how current cosmetology licensure requirements are not leading to higher graduation or licensure rates, nor are they positively impacting earning potential. He also stressed the importance of accessible state license mobility.
