New Health Insurance Requirements
Kegler Brown E-mployment Alert October 14, 2008
Your insurance agent may be calling soon. The reason? Part of the $700 billion "bailout" bill includes a new "mental health parity" insurance provision. It requires employers with 51 or more employee participants to provide mental health and substance abuse coverage on the same basis as other covered conditions. The requirements, unless you have a union contract, go into effect October 3, 2009. The Department of Labor is also directed to issue regulations on the measure in the coming year.
