As part of our 2019 Managing Labor + Employee Seminar on March 5, Brendan spoke on the complicated topic of mental health issues in the workplace, stressing not only its prevalence, but the lack of help being received by those in need, and how it is an issue that affects the workplace. Brendan demonstrated how mental health issues are covered by FMLA and the ADA, and discussed the importance of documentation on the part of both the employer and the employee’s doctor. He also touched on when and how to ask an employee about mental illness, and got into specifics with frequent conditions and how to make reasonable accommodations for them.
