A Legal Outlook of Medical Marijuana: What’s on the Horizon?

Kegler Brown 2019 Managing Labor + Employee Seminar

As part of our 2019 Managing Labor + Employee Seminar on March 5, Lloyd began this presentation by reviewing the purpose, functions and qualifying conditions under HB 523, Ohio’s Medical Marijuana bill. After giving statistics on how Ohioans are utilizing medical marijuana under the recent law, he also reviewed what the law does not require of employers, such as how it does not require an employer to permit or accommodate and employee’s use of medical marijuana. Randy discussed the relationship between medical marijuana and unemployment benefits, highlighting that the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation will not pay for medical marijuana. Both speakers also reviewed recent cases and upcoming legislation before answering several questions from the audience.

Lloyd and Randy’s section begins on slide 162 of the linked presentation.
