Proud Together

“When all Americans are treated as equal, no matter who they are or whom they love, we are all more free.” - President Barack Obama

These are challenging times and, at moments, it may seem like we are a nation of polar opposites drifting apart from one another. However, we believe our best days as a nation are ahead of us. By sincere appreciation of diversity and a steadfast commitment to inclusion, we will move forward together to better days.

At Kegler Brown, we are reminded of our commitment to diversity and inclusion during this Pride month. We would like to take a moment to commemorate the historic events of Stonewall, recognize the inequity that still exists against the LGBTQ+ community, and join together in support of those who continue to fight for equality.

Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in New York City, was no stranger to the all-too-common police raids of gay bars in the 1960s. On June 28, 1969, police raided the Stonewall Inn, but instead of dispersing, its patrons stood their ground, drawing resolve from their anger against constant harassment and societal discrimination. The resolve of Stonewall would grow to mass riots for the next five days, drawing national attention to the inequities against the LGBTQ+ community. Stonewall served as a catalyst for equality and led to the formation of numerous gay rights organizations, including the Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest LGBTQ+ advocacy group.

So, as we celebrate Pride this month, we are proud to join together in support of those who continue to fight for equality by making donations to various non-profit organizations selected by our employees for their focus on serving our LGBTQ+ community, including Stonewall Columbus and Kaleidoscope Youth Center. In addition, we renew our resolve to stand with the LGBTQ+ community to foster a society where all persons are treated equally regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.

To our LGBTQ+ employees, families, clients, and colleagues, we see you and we celebrate you. Happy Pride. Let’s stand proud together.
