Kegler Brown Awards 2018 Diversity Scholarship

Kegler Brown is pleased to announce that its annual Diversity Scholarship has been awarded to Garibaldy Volney.

Garibaldy attends The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law and received a B.A. in Philosophy from Florida State University. Along with mentoring children with the Boys & Girls Club and serving as Community Service Chair for FSU’s undergraduate Black Law Student Association, his work experience includes being a member of FSU’s Student Senate and an intern at Nextgen Climate Action, a group dedicated to political issues involving climate change and protecting the environment.

“Our diversity scholarship program helps us attract and retain exceptional law students, not only because of the financial assistance it gives students with their legal education, but also because it affirms our ongoing commitment to diversity,” said Managing Director Chris Weber. “We are pleased to offer this opportunity as part of that commitment.”

2018 marks the fifteenth year for the Kegler Brown Diversity Scholarship, which is awarded annually to a first-year law student based on academic performance, accomplishments, activities, and potential contributions to the legal community. The $10,000 Kegler Brown Hill + Ritter Diversity Scholarship includes a paid summer clerkship position with the firm’s first-year summer associate class.

Kegler Brown maintains an internal Diversity + Inclusion Committee to formalize and further the firm's commitment to achieving diversity at all levels of the organization. Along with our long-stranding Women Lawyers’ Initiative, we are also a charter member of the Columbus Bar Association’s Managing Partners’ Diversity Initiative, which works with other local law firms, law schools and the CBA to significantly increase the number of diverse attorneys being recruited, hired and promoted by our firm and others.
