First Year Kegler Brown Awards Two Minority Scholarships

Kegler, Brown, Hill + Ritter select Danielle Starks and Mark Thompson as recipients of annual minority student merit scholarship.

Kegler Brown Minority Merit Scholarship is awarded annually to a minority student based on their academic performance, accomplishments, activities, and potential contributions to the legal community. 2012 is the first year the scholarship will have two recipients.

Starks attends Georgetown University Law Center and received her B.A. in Public Policy from Duke University. Her work experience includes Women’s Legal Centre in South Africa and Office of the Public Defender. Starks was also a Research Assistant at the Stanford School of Public Policy, Senator of Duke Student Government and Vice President of Scott House Selective Living Group.

Thompson attends The University of Chicago Law School and received his B.A. in Political Science, summa cum laude, from Miami University. His work experience includes Researcher for the International Scholar Laureate Program and Capstone Thesis for Miami University. Thompson was also involved in the Miami University Men’s Rugby Club and College Ambassadors Program.

“The scholarship program helps us to attract and retain excellent minority law students and it assists students financially with their legal education,” said Managing Director Mike Zatezalo. “We are pleased to offer this opportunity as part of Kegler Brown’s ongoing commitment to diversity.”

The scholarship awards each recipient $5,000 and a paid summer clerkship position with the firm’s first-year summer associate class.
