Federal bill sparks concern for hundreds of defense jobs in Central Ohio

Columbus Business First

Interviewed by Columbus Business First in reference to a proposed bill that would result in cutting almost 6,000 jobs from the Defense Supply Center Columbus, and more in Cleveland, Steve, who leads the Central Ohio Defense Group, which advocates for the local defense industry, said "From our standpoint, this proposes a BRAC without any of the checks and balances in previous laws."

"There were all kinds of opportunities for the community to be heard in a BRAC process," he said. "This legislation provides none of those opportunities. With so much at stake for us and Cleveland, we believe if we’ll have a BRAC-like result we need a BRAC process."

He also gave further insight into the negative effects this bill would have on the local workforce.
