Kegler Brown’s annual Managing Labor and Employee Relations seminar will take place on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, at the Fawcett Center. Join us for this half-day seminar focused on timely information regarding labor and employee relations, and earn CLE or SHRM credit hours.

A hot breakfast will be served to all attendees.

8:00 a.m. – Registration, Breakfast + Networking

8:30 a.m. –   Recent Developments, Brendan Feheley

Brendan will give a brief overview of current topics and trends from the past year.

8:45 a.m. –  Private Eyes are Watching YouDave McCartyJim Anderson, Partner, Infoquest Information Services

Dave and Jim will provide examples of how employees can commit workers’ compensation fraud in a few different ways, how to spot fraudulent claims, what to do if you suspect workers’ comp abuse, how to take action, and the proper way to react to fraud.

9:30 a.m. –  Employer as Debt Collector: Wage Garnishment, Larry McClatchey

Employers become involuntary debt collectors when wages of an employee are garnished by the employee’s creditor. This presentation provides an overview of Ohio's garnishment laws and the duties of employers in receipt of garnishment or wage withholding orders.

10:00 a.m. – Case Law UpdateDanielle Crane

Danielle will discuss recent cases impacting employment issues in Ohio and surrounding states.

10:45 a.m. – Break

11:00 p.m. – Incident Investigations, Jane Gleaves

The current statistics from the EEOC indicate that employee claims of retaliation are on the rise. More employees are complaining about events or conditions in the workplace and are alleging that they are treated unfairly based on their complaints. Jane will cover best practices for investigating a complaint regarding issues in your workplace in a way that best protects the company.

12:00 p.m. – ADA, FMLA, Workers’ Comp, Oh My!Brendan Feheley

Employees’ absence from work is one of the most troubling issues facing HR professionals. Brendan will walk you through your obligations under the various laws, the intersections between them, and some strategies for handling difficult cases.

Parking

Free parking is available to all guests in The Fawcett Center lot. Guests will be asked to place a parking permit in their windshield. Kegler Brown will distribute the parking permit through e-mail the week of the seminar.
