Mechanic’s Liens: What You Need To Know

Kegler Brown

Join us on Tuesday, August 28th for a presentation by construction attorney Eric Travers on mechanic's lien rights and how to preserve, perfect and enforce them.

Mechanic’s liens are one of the most effective tools a contractor, subcontractor, or supplier has to increase leverage and be paid for their labor or materials. Because lien laws are enforced strictly, however, there are many traps for the unwary, and a bad lien not only may be ineffective to secure payment, but could expose the claimant to damages from the owner.

In this lively presentation, Eric will discuss and answer questions that every construction participant, from owner and contractor to subcontractor and suppliers, needs to know about mechanic’s liens and lien protection on both private and public projects under Ohio’s lien statutes (note: the standards and protections are different for private and public projects).

Topics to be covered include:

  • Introduction to Mechanic’s Liens
  • Preserving Your Lien Rights
  • Identifying the Last Date of Work
  • Perfecting Your Lien
  • Enforcing and Defending Lien Claims

A light breakfast will be provided to all attendees.
