Legal Seminar for Credit Professionals 2014

Kegler Brown, in conjunction with NACM Great Lakes Region , will present its annual Legal Conference for Credit Professionals on Thursday, October 16. This half-day seminar is central Ohio's premier legal conference providing compelling and timely topics that are imperative for credit managers.

Special guests this year will be representatives of NACM Connect. In July, NACM GLR was acquired by NACM/Chicago Midwest, one of the nation’s largest and strongest NACM affiliates, and became part of the NACM Connect family. Total membership in NACM Connect is nearly 2,400 and it sponsors 37 national and 55 local groups. Come and experience the excitement as a new era begins!

8:30 a.m. Handling Corruption and Bribes in International Sales; Luis Alcalde

Luis will examine issues for credit managers regarding compliance with laws of the United States and foreign jurisdictions and will offer practical advice for avoiding trouble.

9:15 a.m. Recovering Assets Transferred by Debtors; Christy Prince

Christy will review current laws allowing recovery of property transferred by debtors seeking to avoid claims of creditors, differences between preferences and fraudulent conveyances, the rights of a “good faith” transferee and the new Uniform Avoidable Transfer Act.

10:15 a.m. Electronic Commerce: Essential Overview for Credit Professionals; Dan Bennett

Dan will provide an overview of e-commerce laws important for credit professionals. He'll discuss electronic signatures, e-checks and using internet credit applications.

10:45 a.m. Bankruptcy Law Update; Larry McClatchey

Larry will discuss interesting new developments in bankruptcy and collection law of vital interest to credit professionals, including new defenses to preference cases, the ordinary course of business and new value defenses. Topics are subject to change to reflect up-to-the-minute developments.
