New OSHA Enforcement Program

Kegler Brown E-mployment Alert

OSHA announced a new policy, the Severe Violators Enforcement Program, which became effective last Friday, June 18, 2010. The program is designed to focus on employers who “repeatedly endanger workers” – those who commit willful, repeat, or failure to abate violations in (a) fatality situations, (b) operations or processes that expose workers to severe occupational hazards, (c) exposures to potential hazardous chemical releases, and (d) all egregious enforcement actions. The program includes additional OSHA enforcement actions, such as increased inspections, mandatory follow-up inspections, and inspections of other workplaces operated by the company.
