“There’s An App For That” – Your Tax Dollars At Work

Kegler Brown E-mployment Alert

U.S. Department of Labor launched its first phone “app” this month. But it’s not designed to help employers comply with the Wage-Hour laws. Instead, its objective is to help the Department sue employers.

The app is an electronic time recordkeeping system that is to help employees track the hours they work and calculate if they are underpaid. The app is free and can be easily downloaded from the Wage and Hour Division website.

Commenting on the new app, a Department of Labor statement said: “This information could prove invaluable during a Wage and Hour Division investigation when an employer has failed to maintain accurate employment records.” The comments of Labor Secretary Hilda Solis were even more direct: “This app will help empower workers to understand and stand up for their rights when employers have denied their hard-earned pay.”
