Andrew (“Andy”) Sonderman as a firm director. Sonderman leads the firm’s Energy and Utilities Practice Group. He joined Kegler Brown as of counsel in January 2011.
Sonderman has over 30 years of experience representing public utilities in civil litigation and in state public utility commission proceedings. From 1990 to 2003, he served as general counsel for the public utilities of NiSource Inc., formerly the Columbia Energy Group.
Sonderman’s practice group focuses on providing counsel to clients in the oil and gas industry, public utilities and competitive natural gas and electric retail suppliers on a variety of matters relating to rate and regulatory matters before administrative agencies, as well as contractual, transactional and compliance issues.
He continues as an active associate member of the Ohio Gas Association, the Ohio Oil and Gas Association, the Energy & Mineral Law Foundation and the American Gas Association after chairing its Legal Committee from 2000 – 2001. He served as a charter member of the board of directors of the Gas Industry Standards Board, now known as the North American Energy Standards Board.
Sonderman is a frequent lecturer and has been published in The Ohio State Law Journal and The Energy Law Journal. He has served in leadership positions for numerous other organizations, including the Catholic Foundation of the Diocese of Columbus, Opera Columbus, Catholic Social Services, and United Way of Central Ohio.
Mr. Sonderman graduated summa cum laude from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and served as the Issue Planning Editor of the Ohio State Law Journal.
