Kegler Brown & Capital City Group

Overview

To fully serve a client, it is essential that we know their business inside and out. At Kegler Brown, we believe that thorough knowledge of the law is not enough - that’s why we seek not only to understand our clients’ legal objectives and bottom lines, but also to gain valuable insights into that client’s mission, corporate culture, and organizational principles. We’ve found that this process enables us to work in true partnership with our clients, add real value to our relationships with them, and assist them in accomplishing their objectives. With Capital City Group, this process began long before our legal relationship was formed.

Industry Partners

There is no more solid foundation for a successful business partnership than one that is created while working together passionately to achieve a common goal. In the early 1990s, Don Gregory, chair of Kegler Brown’s Construction Law practice, and Chet Gibson, who would later become the founder of Capital City Group Inc. (CCG), worked together to advocate for the rights of subcontractors in Ohio. They teamed up through their respective work with the American Subcontractors Association (an organization for which Don serves as General Counsel) and achieved the passage of Ohio's Prompt Payment Act, which is widely regarded as a landmark piece of construction law legislation in Ohio. This law mandates timely payment to subcontractors and suppliers and would serve as model legislation for other states across the country. This accomplishment would constitute the foundation of the relationship between the Gibson family and Kegler Brown and mark the first of many successful endeavors together.

A Relationship Founded on Trust

When Chet decided to go on his own and start a business, he knew it was important to find a legal advisor that would share his values, mission and passion for the industry. After working with Don so closely through the ASA and learning more about the firm, Chet was positive that he could trust Kegler Brown to help him navigate the complex process. For more than 15 years, our firm worked closely with the family in all legal aspects involved in the creation of the company, the protection of its assets, and the formation of its subsequent divisions. According to Chet, “Kegler Brown has the unique ability to foresee all possible questions and answer them before they arise.”

Reaching New Heights

Kegler Brown has had the honor of working with Capital City Group since its inception and handles all of their legal needs. Our firm has seen their organization grow from its infancy to its current status as a leading provider of crane rental services in the Midwest. From bid to punchlist, we offer them full-service legal counsel for all of their growing needs and are always ready to stand by them as they continue to reach new heights in the industry.

“The way I work, it is necessary to have a positive relationship, trust and the knowledge that they'll do the job correctly. My trust in Kegler Brown is absolute.”
