Larry McClatchey has been a leader in establishing and growing Kegler Brown’s Creditors’ Rights & Bankruptcy practice area, which he chairs. He has been with the firm since 1985.
Creditors' Rights & Bankruptcy
Larry’s practice emphasizes the protection of rights of both creditors and debtors in business transactions and in litigation, with special emphasis and experience in handling bankruptcy court matters. He served as general counsel to National Association of Credit Management-OHIO, now part of NACM Great Lakes Region. He has been selected annually by the Executive Office of the United States Trustee every year since 1988 to serve the United States Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of Ohio, as a member of the panel of chapter 7 bankruptcy trustees. Additionally, Larry has represented numerous small business clients in bankruptcy matters since 1980, and is especially proficient in small business reorganizations under chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code. He has also been involved in many large chapter 11 cases, advising clients in cases of national interest in a number of states, particularly in prosecuting administrative priority claims and defending preference lawsuits. Some of the cases of national interest in which Larry has been involved include National Steel, Phar-Mor, Federated Department Stores, Fleming, Nicole Energy, Archway Cookies, Jay Foods/Select Snacks, Pilgrim’s Pride and Source Interlink Distributors. Some of Larry’s other recent clients have included residential mortgage servicing companies and national financial institutions, including issuers of mortgage-backed securities caught up in the mortgage crisis. His wide-ranging practice has included agricultural law issues, foreclosures and all manners of commercial litigation, including collections.

Career Highlights - Larry has successfully concluded over ten thousand chapter 7 bankruptcy cases as Trustee since 1988, including two business cases in which he recovered settlements of over $2 million and $4 million, respectively, for distribution to creditors.
