To Counsel a Mockingbird: Harper Lee, To Set a Watchman, Ethics and Diminished Capacity

Columbus Bar Association

The Columbus Bar Association is hosting “To Counsel a Mockingbird: Harper Lee, To Set a Watchman, Ethics and Diminished Capacity.” This innovative CLE program is designed to instruct on topics of ethics and professionalism.

Kailee Goold and Jason Beehler will be teaching the seminar.

Live actors will perform three separate scenes from To Kill a Mockingbird.

The “newly discovered” prequel to To Kill a Mockingbird set off a debate about diminished capacity and the publication of the first of Harper Lee’s novels. This seminar will discuss not only the professional conduct lessons taught to us by To Kill a Mockingbird, but will also discuss how the issues of diminished capacity color the ability of attorneys to effectively and ethically counsel their clients. The presentation will be framed by several live-acted vignettes from Mockingbird.
