  • The Disciplinary Counsel and Beyond: An Overview of Ethics & Professionalism, Jonathan E. Coughlan, Disciplinary Counsel: Ohio Supreme Court
  • Mr. Coughlan will present current noteworthy issues, including social media, and an overview of recent case law.

  • Ethical Issues in Civil Litigation, Christopher Weber
  • Mr. Weber will discuss ethics and professionalism issues civil litigators should consider as they navigate their way through the course of litigation.

  • Professionalism & Substance Abuse: A Dangerous Career Combination, Rasheeda Khan & Geoffrey Stern
  • Ms. Khan and Mr. Stern will take a deeper look at substance abuse - The American Bar Association emphasizes the extent to which lawyers suffer from alcoholism and substance abuse. The team will also present on the importance of professionalism in day-to-day conduct and for the exiting attorney.

Presenters:

Jonathan E. Coughlan - Disciplinary Counsel: Ohio Supreme Court
Jonathan Coughlan has been Disciplinary Counsel of the Supreme Court of Ohio since 1997. Mr. Coughlan lectures on attorney and judicial ethics for the Judicial College of the Supreme Court of Ohio, the OSBA-CLE Institute and local bar associations.  He serves as an instructor at the National College of District Attorneys in South Carolina and is an Adjunct Professor at Ohio State College of Law where he teaches Professional Responsibility. Mr. Coughlan is a member of the National Organization of Bar Counsel and is on the board of directors of the Association of Judicial Disciplinary Counsel.  

Geoffrey Stern
Geoff served as Disciplinary Counsel of the Supreme Court of Ohio, as well as chair of the Ohio State Bar Association’s Committee on Legal Ethics and Professional Conduct. He heads the professional responsibility practice area at Kegler Brown and is a frequent speaker and expert witness on ethics/malpractice.

Christopher Weber
Chris focuses on trial and appellate advocacy in areas of professional responsibility, commercial litigation and corporate governance, and compliance law. He has tried and argued several disciplinary cases to successful conclusions and is a frequent speaker on disciplinary matters.

Rasheeda Khan
Rasheeda focuses on trial and appellate advocacy in areas of commercial litigation, professional responsibility, and criminal defense. She has served as first and second chair on numerous hearings before the Board of Commissioners on Grievances and Discipline, the Board of Commissioners on Character and Fitness, and the Ohio Supreme Court.
