Matt counsels private companies, individuals and lenders in developing and implementing the business and financing strategies necessary to fund projects ranging from complex real estate developments to employee incentive plans. He joined Kegler Brown in 2012.
Commercial + Real Estate Finance
Matt represents real estate developers, banks, investment funds and commercial borrowers of all sizes in a wide range of financing transactions, including real estate acquisition financing, mezzanine financing, construction and permanent financing, syndicated loans, inventory and accounts receivable financing, and a wide variety of other asset-based loans.
Matt advises new and established businesses on formation, structure, buy-sell agreements, deferred compensation, equity incentive plans and other strategies that position them for growth and help businesses effectively accomplish their corporate goals.
State + Local Taxation
Matt is well-versed in all aspects of state and local taxation, including sales and use tax, real property tax, commercial activity tax, withholding and tax exemption issues. He also advises and represents clients throughout each stage of the tax controversy process, including planning, compliance, assessment, appeals and resolution.
Economic Development + Public Finance
Matt advises both private businesses and government entities regarding the legal issues related to economic development and growth projects, including leveraging creative financing options that incorporate low income housing tax credits, new market tax credits, historic tax credits, bond financing, Tax Increment Financing (TIF), Joint Economic Development District (JEDD) revenues, New Community Authority (NCA) assessments, Special Improvement District (SID) assessments, and Enterprise Zone (EZ) abatements to support the development of such projects. He frequently serves as counsel to issuers, lenders, acquiring entities and borrowers in developing and implementing economic development and economic incentive strategies.
