Recruiting

Each summer associate has a mentor who helps ensure exposure to a variety of challenging projects, responds to personal concerns and gives feedback on the summer associate’s progress. Summer associates work directly with many attorneys in the firm and are encouraged to explore as many areas of the practice of law as possible. We do not rotate summer associates through practice areas, but rather encourage you to experience work in all areas to assist you in determining the area in which you would like to practice following graduation. When possible, summer associates attend client meetings, assist in preparation of depositions and trials, attend trials, perform research, draft legal documents, and learn about caseload management. Our goal is for you to experience what practicing law with Kegler, Brown, Hill & Ritter is like.

Our attorneys are asked to provide the Summer Associate Recruiting Committee and mentors with written evaluations of the work performed by the summer associates. These evaluations are completed after each project, and then overall evaluations are solicited over the course of the summer. Summer associates will meet with a member of the Summer Associate Recruiting Committee to review evaluations of their performance. In addition, our attorneys usually provide informal evaluations and feedback to summer associates upon the completion of each project.

Hiring for summer associate and permanent associate positions focuses primarily upon strong academic performance and high quality legal work; a “fit”; that will establish a strong and mutually beneficial relationship; and the firm's projected hiring needs.

We are particularly interested in developing strong working relationships with our summer associates and look forward to becoming acquainted with them on an informal basis.

Accordingly, our summer schedule involves several social gatherings, including events for families or close friends, which allows us the opportunity to get to know one another outside the office.
